The Software Engineer 3 role at Granicus is for developers early in their careers who are looking for a fun, supportive, and fast-paced environment to grow their skills and contribute code to production systems.
This role is focused on backend development, primarily using Ruby on Rails, with experience in Python as a good to have. You will build and maintain critical backend services, APIs, and analytics-enabled systems, and contribute to cross-stack services.
Candidates will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, participate in technical discussions, and help deploy and support these applications in higher environments.
GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted developer tools are integral to how we build software.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Ruby on Rails.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs, backend integrations, and data pipelines supporting analytics and AI-driven features.
Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver impactful product features.
Ensure code quality through unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews.
Participate in architecture discussions and implement Cloud-Native, multi-tenant backend solutions.
Leverage AWS tools (EC2, S3, CloudWatch, ECS/EKS, Serverless) to build, monitor, and scale applications.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, improving automation and deployment workflows.
Apply a product-oriented programming mindset, balancing technical excellence with user value.
Use GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted tools to enhance productivity and code quality.
Collaborate in agile environments and contribute to continuous improvement of team processes.
4–7 years of experience developing and maintaining production-quality web applications.
Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails with solid understanding of ActiveRecord and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Cloud-Native architecture standards.
Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, CloudWatch, ECS/EKS (optional), or Serverless (optional).
Proficiency working with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).
Understanding of multi-tenant architecture, JWT-based authentication, and RBAC.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
A collaborative mindset with willingness to mentor and learn from peers.
Comfort using AI-assisted developer tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Windsurf.
Exposure to frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, or Next.js).
Experience working on analytics, NLP, or AI-driven systems.
Familiarity with observability tools (ELK, OpenSearch, or Datadog).
Experience with microservices or event-driven architectures.
